Static vs Dynamic QR Codes: Which Should You Use?

A static QR code encodes your content directly in the pattern. A dynamic QR code encodes a short redirect link that you control. That single difference drives everything else: editability, analytics, and what happens when things change.
Choose static when the content is truly permanent and self-contained: WiFi credentials, a vCard, a serial number, a fixed URL you'll never move. Static codes work offline, depend on no service, and live as long as the ink they're printed with.
Choose dynamic when anything might change or when you need to measure. Menus, campaign landing pages, documents under revision, event schedules — anything where reprinting is expensive and iteration is likely. Dynamic codes also unlock scan analytics, password protection, scheduling, expiry and scan limits.
The hybrid pattern most businesses land on: static for identity (contact cards, WiFi), dynamic for marketing (everything with a budget attached). When in doubt, go dynamic — you can always point it at the same place forever, but you can never make a static code editable after printing.
